What Turning 42 Taught Me About Faith and Wellness

Since turning 40, I’d rather skip my own birthday. 😉 It’s not that I care about being one year older. Honestly, aging has been amazing for me. I think I’ve always been an old soul, and the wisdom I’m starting to feel is very peaceful and calming. One of the biggest lessons I've learned over the years is that faith and wellness are deeply connected. The more I prioritize both, the more peace, clarity, and resilience I experience. What I can’t wrap my mind around is putting any time, effort, or energy into something for myself. We are capped out on logistics over here, and the irony is that my birthday falls on the day I will be picking materials and colors for our kitchen remodel.

Why a Kitchen Remodel Feels Like a Birthday Gift

I know you’ve likely seen my kitchen in pictures, and there are parts of it that are pretty. But we’ve had 2 water leaks and discovered mold in the flooring beneath one of them. AND this kitchen has never been very functional. There’s a tiny island in the center of a very large kitchen. I’m constantly lapping the island with tiny bruises on my hips because every appliance is in a different corner of the kitchen. We also had a custom paneled freezer/fridge die at the beginning of the year, and we put in a temporary replacement so we could be sure what we wanted to commit to the space. My sink is on a peninsula, so dishes are almost always presented to guests, and moving the sink has been on the to-do list for 5 years. I tried soooo hard to avoid a full remodel and just make a beautiful backdrop. But it’s just not functional enough, and with the damage and the need for a custom replacement for the freezer/fridge, I was finally convinced. Thankfully for us, we have my in-laws' house to occupy, rather than trying to set up a makeshift kitchen and live through the dust.

So, happy 42nd birthday to me. I’ll get a new kitchen! Maybe it’s time I actually get a KitchenAid mixer too. It’s always been the thing I’ve been “too cheap” to get myself. My old, affordable mixers work just fine, but they don’t look cute in pics or videos! What do you think? I’ve had my eye on the green and wooden-looking one for a couple of years now! We’ll see, and there will be signs if I actually do get one! 😊

Lessons I'm Learning About Faith and Wellness

As I begin another year, which I truly recognize as a gift from the Lord, I’ll share a few quick lessons I’ve been learning:

There’s no anti-aging biohack to replace the peace that you desperately seek in the spirit. Get aligned with God’s purpose for you to feel that peace.

Sidenote: I do love anti-aging biohacks still!

There’s no food that will make you as satisfied as the fulfillment you will receive from faith. If you’re struggling with food, maybe there’s a disconnect between what you’re seeking and your faith.

Sidenote: I do love good, healthy recipes that make me feel so alive and well! And I think you would too.

There’s no exercise that will replace the practices of regulating your nervous system and rooting yourself deeply in faith and belief in God’s promises.

Sidenote: You physically will never be what you’re capable of without heavy weights and hard exercise.

The Connection Between Mind, Body, and Spirit

The reality is we truly need both, all health practices in our life: spiritual, nervous system, mental, emotional, and physical. But often, some leave you feeling emptier than when you started. I practice what I preach and regulate my system by slowing down, listening to God, and meditating, and my physical efforts pay off more!

The sickest I’ve ever been in my life was my mid-30s, and I’m so grateful for those years of suffering to help me understand the connection of mind, body and spirit the way I do and allow me to teach you all. Healing never comes from one aspect alone; it comes from all, and often we are most sick in our spirits while our physical bodies are just trying to protect us.

My Calling to Serve Women Through Health

My passion to serve women in health and wellness is deeply rooted in faith. It’s been God’s call and kingdom assignment for me for close to 20 years now. God didn’t equip me beforehand. He called me, continues to call me, and equips me as I need it.

If it were up to the physical me, with 4 children and a husband with his own business, I would have taken a step back from work a long time ago. I await the Lord to say, “Your time has come to be only in the home.” Until then, I will do what I’m called to do. I will continue learning so I can help you all in a deeper, more meaningful way.

As I reflect on another year, I'm reminded that true health isn't found in any one habit, supplement, workout, or wellness trend. It's found in caring for the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. The older I get, the more convinced I become that lasting wellness comes from living in alignment with God's purpose, staying grounded in faith, and supporting the physical body He's given us. I'm grateful for every lesson, every challenge, and every opportunity to continue learning, growing, and sharing this journey with you.
