Summer Lake Life

Life lately... doesn’t always go as planned.

Life lately… doesn’t always go as planned.

If you’ve been around for at least a year, you know our family sanctuary is our lake cottage in Michigan. When I say cottage, it’s because it is quaint, old, and everything that comes with it. We’ve done a few tiny upgrades because there are minimal things you can do to a house built in 1926 and already has 2 additions. The floors are uneven; the well needs to be re-dug, and getting the water right is hard. But man, this place gives us so much joy, peace, and tranquility! Binge-reading a couple of novels and laying on the boat mid-day with mild temperatures is seriously something I never imagined for myself. But it’s one of our year’s best weeks, every year.

This year, we had a nasty virus run its course through the entire family. I was able to “fight it off” with a couple of mild symptoms. But Chris and the girls didn’t fair as well.

We didn’t have our typical modalities to fight it off, either. Couldn’t use our tub because our water needed to be fixed, so detox baths were out. Didn’t bring a sauna blanket or immune supplements… just the foundational support. So, we did our best and ordered some of our immune remedies online. It was a three-week cough that was more annoying than anything, but poor Chris ended up with pneumonia, which seems wild to me in the Summertime. He didn’t feel great for the entirety of the trip, which was a bummer. Plus, did I mention that I was the only one who didn’t get it but had to listen to everyone cough throughout the night for 3 weeks? In super tight quarters. This is usually our best sleep of the year, but not this year! Go figure.

Speaking of sleep, I mentioned on my Instagram stories one day that I could tell my adrenals were seriously healed this Summer for two reasons. One is that I can finally sleep past 6 when I need to. I slept until 7 almost every day this Summer, which I needed because of the rough nights. But my body hasn’t adjusted like that in over 15 years. Then, the other thing that happened was my body started to crave a little running again!  I went out for a walk and intuitively felt like running. I took off and did three miles like I’ve done a million times, but not in the last five years. It was such a joyful feeling to listen to cues from my body! I’ll never run long distances again because it doesn’t seem worth the wear and tear on my body, but wow, the short distance felt amazing. After 8 months of solid foundational support and some root cause protocols (and mostly healing my nervous system), my body is fully operating! I’m amazed!

About five days from our final day at the lake, I could tell the changes happening to me mentally, and guess where it started? Sleep! Always sleep for me. I started thinking about getting back into our grind and the three different school drop-offs we will have this year. And it put me into a slight tailspin. It’s always tricky to settle your system when things are looming in the future, but I always think… what’s the worst that can happen, and remind myself these are good changes, and we’ll figure it out. We always do! But for now, please don’t ask me how I do what I do. Because I haven’t even figured it out yet! 😉

I hope you are having an amazing Summer. Summer is a time for the mind and body to be at ease with more flexibility and less structure. I know not all personalities love that! I have two kids who can’t handle it, so they thrive with steady, small jobs and lots of training and camps. I also have two kids who thrive in the flow of Summer with nothing to do, so I try to honor both of their types! I personally ebb and flow! I certainly CANNOT do the same thing every day, so I’m thankful for July, where each day feels totally different.

I'm looking forward to connecting with you next week within our membership and sharing more about the nervous system's connection to the hormone system and the FREE ways we can manage it!
