Setting Ourselves Up for a Healthy New Year

I know setting some resolutions and big goals to start the new year is appealing. And it’s not a bad idea to plan out your year with some discipline and structure. But it’s also important to let yourself ease into the new year with realistic goals for your life stage, be it craziness with kids or a whole new set of hormones to deal with.

I’ve seen the trend of people setting the tone for the new year with a phrase or word that they would like to represent their year. I love this idea, which is more of a reflection than a big to-do list. As you empower yourself for consistent health practices and gains, it’s important to make attainable promises to yourself. Not every year is smooth sailing; our consistency gets us through a hard time. So, take a moment to reflect on a word that you would like to represent your year.

As far as healthy changes everyone is seeking in the new year, know that Winter is a time of tuning into your body, needing more rest and a little more love. My top five practices to help with my body during Winter are:

  1. Epsom salt or detox baths

  2. Sauna blanket

  3. Warming soups

  4. 8 plus hours of sleep (7 is great for me when the days are longer)

  5. LONG hugs – I make my girls hug for longer than they’re comfortable with multiple times a day. I am still working on the hubby 😉 (Dare I say hugs can give the wrong idea to them!)

Write your word of the year out in a couple of different places in your home or car and allow the year to flow how it’s going with tools to navigate the highs and lows. Don’t be afraid to spend time out in the cold. Bundle up if needed, but certain body types do great with the colder weather! Practice supporting your whole body. This is the calendar season we’re in, but it is also in the season/stage of life you’re in.

Lastly, next month, we’ll kick off the year with our first challenge. In this challenge, we will be focused on macros and how important blood sugar stabilization is. Macros is a foundational tool to support your overall health. It’s not a diet, so maybe to prep yourself for more CCN, you can start diving into what that means. I’ll share more in the upcoming weeks as well!

Personally, my girls went back to school this week. It’s been a daze for me. I have mentioned in the past that I’m a slow transitioner when I’m emotional and sad. I suck at accepting our girls growing up. We have high school upon us, and that very real thought literally puts a hole in my gut. I am working towards not thinking ahead too much, but at this point, we aren’t even 100% sure where she is going to high school. My heart and mind are feeling the in-between, but I’m working on daily surrendering to God’s will to guide us and show us the next step and path. I pray you can use the tool of surrender to support your life transitions! So much love to you, Moms who have gone before me. I can’t decide if a couple more babies or a good therapist is what I need 😂 But I seek your experiences to help me through!

Love to ya!
