The confusion around food literally makes my blood boil. So much of what we eat should be intuitive, yet diet culture and conflicting advice leave us second-guessing ourselves. That’s why intuitive eating is so important—it’s about trusting your body, listening to its signals, and choosing real, whole foods that truly nourish you.
I’m going to share some real-life stories related to Rice Krispies Treats. Yep, you heard me—Rice Krispies Treats.

But first, let me back it up.

When I decided at 22 that God was calling me toward nutrition, I did a lot of research. While my pride wanted the highest degree in nutrition, conversations with professionals led me down a different path.
Why? Because much of the food recommended in hospitals and clinics hardly qualifies as real food. Many licensed dietitians still say artificial colors and aspartame are fine—they were taught this in school. For example, some platforms suggested low-fat Yoplait over full-fat Greek yogurt. Intuitively, even at 22, that didn’t sit right with me. I knew I couldn’t get an education I didn’t believe in, and I couldn’t see myself in a clinical setting or working for someone else.
So I chose a path with more resistance—listening to God, less planning on my own. I started in fitness, teaching sorority girls how to listen to their bodies and care for them. I showed them how to shop for groceries, combine macros, eat intuitively, and exercise at the right heart rate to achieve results. We had fun, but by my second pregnancy, I switched fully to nutrition, letting it flow naturally.
I always let God guide me, earned the credentials that supported my family and community, and focused on helping people feel whole. At the core, the most intuitive understanding you need about food is:
Real food, whole food, real colors are always best.
Eating Intuitively Means Freedom
Intuitive eating has always been non-restrictive: all whole, real foods stay on the table unless your body tells you otherwise. Once you dial in intuitive eating, you go from:
- “I can’t have that.” → “I don’t want that.”
- You lose desire for foods that make you feel bad
- You no longer crave alcohol if it doesn’t feel good for your body
- HIIT-style workouts become optional, not mandatory
Confusion disappears when you feel your way through health. That’s why my book is called The Feel Good Way! Simplicity, intuition, and faith in your body will eliminate the noise and confusion.
You’ll know when guidance is right or wrong for you, and you’ll trust yourself, giving you unprecedented freedom with food.
Understanding Real vs. Bad Advice
Not all nutrition advice is good advice. For example:
- If a sports dietitian suggests Rice Krispies Treats at halftime, that’s not ideal.
- Artificial dyes, flavors, and high-fructose corn syrup are never the answer for your athlete.
Instead, you’ll know better, quick energy options. Thankfully, most concessions now offer Body Armour, a natural source of electrolytes. At home, I give my kids:
- Electrolyte alternatives like sea salt from Redmond
- Quick glucose boosts like Cuties, pure organic fruit snacks, or Black Forest gummies
- Occasional green tea or coffee instead of energy drinks
