Here we go again! I’m getting all crunchy on ya! This is a follow-up to this Instagram post. Did you miss the first two parts? Read them HERE and HERE.)
I just need to preface this series again by saying that I’m not even close to perfect with all these things. They’re just something to think about and consider applying when appropriate. Most of the suggestions cost no money and very little time. Knowledge is power, and self-awareness plus knowledge is the greatest hack of all time!

So here is the third installment in the series of things I wish people knew…
Olive oil and not cooking with it—We will always recommend extra virgin olive oil. We are crazy about its health benefits. Ask anyone who recently did a CCN challenge (like our most recent Fall Back to Health Challenge) how much we love olive oil. We love it so much that we want the most benefits we can get from it without tarnishing it with heat. It's a low-heat oil, and it’s not worth ruining it when there are so many better oils to cook with.
Here are some better uses for olive oil…
Shoot it straight. Use it as a dip for sourdough… YUM! Drizzle it on steamed or roasted veggies and use it as a salad dressing. The list goes on! It’s not a significant change; I share a graphic of better cooking oils HERE. And it was funny to see people get mad at me for this one. Truth is, if you don’t want to change what you’re doing, then don’t. I’m not forcing you to do anything!
Raw veggies or salads— Have you ever considered that someone else superfood isn’t so super for you? YES, raw veggies, including salads, are not for everyone. They are especially not for people in a healing protocol. Why? You need a fiery digestion system to break many of them down, especially leafy greens. Leafy greens come with a thick cellular layer on them. Better to steam them down and make the most of the nutrients you can digest and absorb.
We aren’t just what we eat… we are what we digest and absorb. What good are raw veggies that you can’t digest or absorb or take too much energy for your body to try to digest and absorb?
Who shouldn’t cold plunge—THIS! I love when something goes viral and we’re like…wait a minute. Hold up. No, not everyone is going to benefit from a cold plunge. I’ve shared a lot about this in our membership recently, so if you want the nitty gritty, come join us.
Generally, you shouldn't cold plunge if you’re a Vata dosha body type.
If you struggle with cortisol management, you shouldn’t cold plunge. That’s a lot of people right there.
Probiotics before bed— yeah, we’ve had this switched up for about three years in our challenges, and I still see my husband taking them in the morning. I guess he didn’t get the memo, but these critters, aka good bacteria, are best used on an empty stomach to work during the body’s restoration period (aka nighttime). They will be much better used, and if you don’t notice a difference, you may want to consider a probiotic that’s more compatible with you and your gut microbiome.
Parasite cleanses—We just had the current year's biggest, most powerful moon. The full moon cleanses are when people go through the removal process of these pathogens. I don’t mind the timing of that, but you DO not want to do this if your body isn’t already foundationally supported. Again, this is something we talk about in-depth in our membership. Before jumping into a parasite cleanse, I recommend at least 30 days of foundational support. And for the record, parasites are not a third-world country disease. They’re all around us, especially if you own a pet!
I will be sharing my own parasite testimonial soon inside—you guessed it—the membership! Let’s just say that every lab I have ever done indicated that I didn’t have parasites, but it turns out they just never lived in my gut. They were on my kidneys, liver, and blood! I am SO glad that is mostly behind me now. I can’t wait to fill you in!
Sunglasses and sleep— This is another one that offends people. I don’t mean to mix up what your practitioner learned 30 years ago, BUT science and understanding the body are changing and evolving. Am I advocating for never wearing sunglasses? Heck no. I’m saying that your daily use of sunglasses whenever you’re in the sun COULD be causing sleep cycle damage. Our eyes are a massive part of our circadian rhythm, and it’s important to have sun exposure. We don’t always want to confuse our brains with the time of day. If you have sleep issues, it could be worth a try. If you’re all good on this, ignore me.
I share all of this with so much love. I’m always amazed at how much criticism these bring. I really do try to stay with changing science on a daily and weekly basis. And I guess you can say I even dig with truth, using my own studies from 17 years in the field and life experiences. I’m not trying to upset anyone, but my goodness, why should we believe what was told decades ago? As always, research and decide what’s best for you and your body!
