Grand Cayman Spring Break: What You Need to Know

If you’re dreaming of a tropical escape this spring, clear waters, gentle waves, and endless sunshine await. A Grand Cayman Spring Break is ideal for families looking for relaxation, adventure, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Planning Our Family Trip

As promised, I want to share everything you never knew you needed to know about our trip. But first, I’ll preface by saying we were seeking the Bahama-like feel, with less crowds, and possibly a better price. Traveling with six at Spring break is no joke! I think costs are likely better in the Summer if you’re Summer vacation people. We aren’t. Too many regional and national tournaments, school sports schedules, and our beloved Summers in Michigan make planning any additional travel impossible, so we usually take our trips for Fall break, Christmas break and Spring break.

So after we were striking out on finding what we wanted on a more desolate Bahamian island, I literally enlisted the kids to research, and not long after, our 14-year-old (the same kid who rigged a trip to Tennessee in 2019) came across the lush, beautiful beaches of Grand Cayman. We quickly learned that we wanted to stay on the Seven Mile Beach, which is world-renowned for its beauty. It honestly felt fake for a couple of reasons: It was so incredibly clean, and the shore was the perfect size. The sand, not perfectly white, was soft and clean. The water actually got deep quickly, which was fun for swimming and floating, and it stayed clear the whole time. There was no seaweed and scarcely any sea creatures in the swimming area. Now, there also weren’t waves, which surprisingly our kids never complained about.

We stayed at the Westin, and I can’t rave enough about the people who worked there. Every encounter was amazing. They all seemed so genuinely happy with their lives. The resort was exactly what we expected from online reviews and pictures, and maybe even a little better. I hate to admit it, but we squeezed into a regular room with only 2 beds. We couldn’t get a suite by the time we booked, and the cost for two rooms was a little crazy. We brought camping beds that you blow up with a foot pump, so they traveled super light and they worked perfectly. The Westin was generous enough to provide extra pillows and super comfy comforters. We were literally only in the room to get ready for dinner and to sleep, so it wasn’t a dilemma at all. Like I said, traveling with six can be tricky to navigate. My poor husband always needs a vacation after the vacations, though, because that’s a lot of female energy!

Dining, Safety, and Island Life

If you’re planning a trip or it’s on your bucket list, you will absolutely love it! A couple things to note:

  • The food was honestly amazing, like all the reviews said. I felt like we ate really well the week we were there, especially since we didn’t have access to a kitchen to make our own food. Every restaurant we went to was as good as the last. There was an easy breakfast place across the street, a nice break from the resort pricing.
  • We could walk almost anywhere we wanted to eat at. We didn’t, but we could have. The island was the safest I’ve ever been to. We gave our kids freedom and some independence because it felt so safe and I don’t hear that a lot about traveling to different countries.
  • It was pristine and clean. From the beaches, to the water, to the roadsides. The landscaping was lush and well kept, there was no trash anywhere. I was amazed by this.
  • There are wild chickens everywhere, like squirrels in the US. It was so cute and fun to see. They said half a million on their tiny island. We saw lots of cute lizards, too. There were a couple of super-friendly feral cats, too. It was like one big family over there.
  • It’s a British Territory, self-governed. English speaking, obviously, which made it easy. Driving was on the other side of the road, which made me not want to rent a car! The taxis were mostly vans and not overpriced. Super easy to get around with or without a rental car.

If you’re searching for a safe, family-friendly getaway, this is exactly what a Grand Cayman Spring Break offers.

Adventures and Relaxation

We took a boat out one afternoon, and it was the highlight of the trip. It was also the only time we couldn’t get enough sunscreen on. It was so beautiful and perfect ocean waters. We snorkeled the reef and saw sea turtles and tons of cool fish. We went to Starfish Point, and it was truly amazing. We also got to cuddle sting rays, and they are surprisingly so friendly and sweet. I can’t wait to take the kids on a longer snorkeling trip someday! We are boat people and loved every second of our 3-hour adventure, and I do recommend the sights we visited.

Besides the boat trip, we mostly laid low during the day and caught up on much-needed rest. We played some sand games, including volleyball, and just relaxed. They had some fun floats to swim out to and either lie on or play king of the raft.

If you’re dreaming of the perfect spring getaway, this is why a Grand Cayman Spring Break is so unforgettable.

Why We’ll Return

So, for the hundreds asking: we stayed at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. We would recommend it a thousand times, and we will definitely go back!

As we were leaving, I couldn’t help but feel so grateful for the experience. When I was out on sunrise every morning, there were lots of island people; swimming, exercising, etc. They were so friendly and their energy was genuinely so happy. I want to live more like that. Dance in the morning to 90s praise and worship music and enjoy more sunrises, rather than rushing into my day.

I felt excited to get back to work, too. I absolutely love what I get to offer you all and am looking forward to our upcoming Spring Reset being just what you need to shift your health and change your life. I was so excited for this week for this exact reason!
