Aging

"Help I've fallen and I can't get up!"

“Help I've fallen and I can't get up!”

Ready for the woes of December? Slightly aging addition? Let me say today, Friday the 13th, I feel incredible. But Monday wasn’t the same story. I’ll fill you in and let you know how I was able to restore my body this week, even amid December chaos.

I first want to say that I love my work, but we used to take December off like we do July (which, honestly, we still work daily but don’t take on new work). And December has become one of the busiest work months of the year. Not only that, but I’ve been trying to maintain a higher client load to help people heal before 2025, and so far, so good, minus the fact that I need more hours in the day. We are also preparing for a new year, fresh start challenge, new year membership education, themes, etc. Many people need more support during the holidays because the nervous system is a little vulnerable at this time of year.

But every Monday, if the weather is okay, I play pickleball with my friends, and it’s just an hour long because our schedules are all over the place. It’s so fun, and I always look forward to it. We often walk away feeling like we pulled or hurt something, but this time was different. My whole back locked up, the first time I’ve ever felt that.

I know many people are familiar with this experience. Sadly, I was chasing a ball that was out of bounds. It wasn’t even like it was a fantastic play that happened 🙂 But I said, “Ok, I’m done for the day.” I needed to go home, and when I got home, I told my husband, who is the “back lock up expert,” since he’s experienced this a lot. I asked him if I should stretch first. After doing a few cat cows, I knew what to do. But it led me to reflect on why my back was weak and would even lock up in the first place. I had a shoulder that was bothering me for a couple of weeks. It was my left shoulder and certainly wasn’t debilitating, and honestly, I injured it, hauling pumpkins off my front porch. I am always trying to go too fast and make every minute count. I realize over and over again I need to slow down.

I think my weak shoulder led to my back locking up and getting hurt. I wasn’t supporting the shoulder like I should have been, but here’s what I did to feel brand new by Friday: no shoulder pain, and any sign of back injury was gone by Thursday.

After I did a couple of stretches, I grabbed my Lumebox and put it directly on the middle of my back, where I had no mobility and was in terrible pain. After the light, I applied an ice pack. I immediately took Phytoprofen, Omegas, and Magnesium to help calm the body and relieve inflammation. I soaked in a salt bath briefly before bed and still had a rough night’s sleep.

I also remembered some other healing modalities I had:

  • KPV once a day

  • BPC157 once a day

  • Continued Phytoprofen 3 times a day

  • Omegas once a day

  • Magnesium once a day

  • NIR setting on Lumebox three times a day

  • PEMF mat once a day

  • I only had a chance to do my sauna blanket once, but I would have done it more if I could have.

The following day, I moved all my calls back so I could spend plenty of time in my infrared sauna blanket. It was the best experience and relaxed the muscles enough to know exactly where the injury was. It was in a back muscle but closer to the obliques than I would have known based on where it hurt the first day. I slept well Tuesday night; I felt super sore on Wednesday, like from a hard workout. By Thursday, my back felt completely normal, but my shoulder was still bugging, so I continued my protocol and focused the red light therapy on my shoulder. As I mentioned above, good as new by Friday!

While I hardly use some of these therapeutics, they are helpful in times of injury!

And also…

It shows that if we don’t take care of the problem, it can lead to another problem.
