5 Ways to Improve Allergies

Spring is a time for renewal and excitement. The sun stays out longer, the trees turn green again, and the flowers bloom. The grass must be cut again, and the bees pollinate like crazy. So, while many of us enjoy the idea of Spring, we don’t always enjoy how we feel. Allergies can knock many of us on our booties, just like the cold or flu, but the good news is there are ways to prevent feeling that poorly and over-activating our histamine systems. And the extra good news is, it’s similar to keeping up our immune system during the Winter months!

Here are my top FIVE ways to improve Spring allergies:

  1. A teaspoon of LOCAL honey a day. Add it to your coffee, tea or just suck it down. By local, the goal is 20 miles from where you live. Those same bees that are pollinating are making the local honey, and over time, your body may become less sensitive to the pollen.

  2. Run air filters in the home. We love and use the Orsani brand in several rooms. Be sure you’ve changed your A/C filters too.

  3. Lemon Water or diluted ACV first thing in the morning.

  4. Reduce inflammatory foods. This varies by the person and the quality of some foods. For instance, many people have a mucous response to dairy, so this would be a good food to reduce when allergies flare up. However, depending on the source of dairy, you may not have the same inflammatory response. Again, this varies by the person! If you want to become more aware of your sensitivities, join one of our upcoming challenges!

  5. Supplementation is one of the best ways to help improve your immune response to allergies. Vitamin C, Quercetin (this one is great because it includes Bromelain, too), and Zinc, to name a few of my favorites.

I hope these help to bring you better health as you combat seasonal allergies. I want to bring a couple of other healing alternatives to your attention:

  • Acupuncture

  • Chiropractor

  • Ozone Therapy

If you have a great alternative medicine doctor, remember to talk to them about alternative healing methods for seasonal allergies!
