Clean Salad Dressings

Clean Salad Dressings

Jan 9th 2018

"I'll have a salad." Sounds healthy and innocent enough, yes? But no matter what goodness you put IN your salad, you could very well be sabotaging all your healthy habits by what you're putting ON your salad. Many dressings are full of sneaky, not so great, ingredients - sugar and soy being the biggest culprits!

The best thing you can do is make your own. But in a pinch there are a few CCN favorites you can find at your local grocery store. Tessamae's is a brand we LOVE here at CCN and their organic balsamic is a winner! (Be sure to still check labels on each variety.)

And if you have the time to make your own, here are a few fan favorites of ours:

Honey Dijon Vinaigrette

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons raw honey

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

3 tablespoons grape seed oil (or other neutral flavored healthy plant oil)

Sea salt & black pepper

Add all ingredients to a pint sized Mason jar. Seal your Mason jar & shake! To make a creamy version, add a tablespoon or two plain Greek yogurt to the mixture.

Balsamic Vinaigrette

3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

¼ cup avocado oil (or other neutral flavored healthy plant oil)

1 clove garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Sea salt & black pepper, to taste

Add all ingredients to a pint sized Mason jar. Seal your Mason jar & shake!

Super Simple Hummus Dressing

¼ cup hummus (flavor of your choice)

2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

½ tablespoon avocado oil (or other healthy plant oil)

Water (if needed, for thinning)

Sea salt & black pepper, to taste

*you can add in extra spices for flavor: try cayenne, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, etc*

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl & whisk together till well combined. For best flavor, refrigerate for a few hours allowing flavors to meld.

If you're eating out and don't know the ingredients of a salad dressing, ask for it on the side. No need to dump heaps of dressing (potentially full of sugar) all over those healthy greens! And when eating, dip your empty fork in the dressing FIRST and then pick up all your salad goodness. This uses WAY less dressing than pouring it over your salad and yet still gives you enough taste! Enjoy!
